Giving Back

Most communities welcome new businesses. It’s good for the economy. They have the potential to hire locals for job openings.

Sending donations through the company for something happening in the community for a holiday or specific purpose is one way to help. What about the other times per year? The same people who need help around holidays also have needs all year long.

CTO Enterprises is such a company. As a company, we are looking for ways to give back and help those in need. It is not a requirement to work here but it is a definite benefit. I think it gives the employees more of a reason to enjoy coming to work.

Earlier in the month, we helped out at My Joyful Heart . This is a program that gives to children in need in the Chicago and South Chicago suburban area. This is a wonderful organization. They are always looking for volunteers to help out in their warehouse, sorting items and creating gift bags. Go to their website for more information.

If this is something you want to do as a company owner, CEO, manager etc., research opportunities in the community and have several choices. Not everyone supports or is comfortable with the same type of volunteering. Always ask who would like to do what. Never assume that everyone wants to.

As a company, you can’t make volunteering mandatory. Some people don’t want to get involved. There are others that want to but are unsure how to go about it. Having like minded people in the workplace make volunteering easier. For some people, it’s the only way they can volunteer.

A good place to get information is your local Chamber of Commerce. They can direct you to those that would benefit. Our chamber of commerce in Mokena, is where we went first.
